Pizza Power Rankings: Pizza Flavored Snacks

Sometimes you're in the mood for pizza, but you're in the middle of a pizza barren road trip and the only food you can get is from the gas station snack counter. Or maybe you've already had pizza for lunch and are planning to have it for dinner so you can't justify having it for a snack as well. What's a pizza fiend supposed to do in these situations? Eat a pizza flavored snack of course! Here are my rankings for the best ones out there.

1. Pizzeria Pretzel Combos

America's favorite cheese filled pretzel truck stop staple takes the number one spot. These feature a sharp cheese that brings a bite, mixed with delicious pizza seasoning that tastes a lot like oregano (in fact you can see said oregano in the product). What makes these so good is that they stay true to the original product while heightening it with pizza flavor. Cheese with pretzels is always a winning combination, but pizza flavored cheese mixed with pretzels will always be better.

2. Pizza Goldfish

This mom's choice snack gets even better with pizza flavor. Like the number one spot pizza goldfish shine with oregano that you can see baked in. It's a more subdued pizza flavor that once again compliments the original snack instead of taking over (for a bigger flavor go for flavor blasted pizza goldfish). These will leave you smiling.

3. Herr's Deep Dish Pizza Cheese Curls

I found these bad boys in the weird food graveyard that is Ocean State Job Lot and have never seen them anywhere else. On first taste they just seem like an extra tangy cheese puff, but you have to wait. After about five seconds the pizza aftertaste overwhelms you. My friend and I both agreed that it was like nothing we had ever tasted or experienced before. They have a factory manufactured taste about them that is also highly addictive in one of those you accidentally eat the whole bag then feel awful about yourself kind of ways.

4. Pizza Cravers Collision Doritos

These Doritos have two flavors in one bag, pizza cravers and ranch. The biggest problem with these is that they do not really taste that much different than mixing nacho Doritos with cool ranch Doritos (the ranch ones definitely seem to just be cool ranch). There is a bit of pizza flavor and the two flavors do match up nicely. As a regular snack these are pretty good and I enjoy them more than a regular bag of Doritos but in the pizza power rankings they fall to the bottom.

5. Pizza-Licious Pringles

I may be biased, but on the whole I find Pringles to be pretty mediocre and these are no exception. The chip base tastes like a potato that was made in a styrofoam factory. Making it worse the pizza flavor dusting that sits on the top has some of the most chemically overpowering flavor of any pizza flavored snack I've sampled. I'm not saying I wouldn't eat these if they were offered to me for free, but I wouldn't seek them out.
